The Institute for the Study of Health and Illness

The Institute for the Study of Health and Illness at Commonweal is an education and training center for physicians who wish to renew their commitment to service and to live by the values that have motivated physicians through the ages. Since 1991, ISHI has offered a series of innovative Category 1 CME retreat workshops that enable physicians to find deeper satisfaction and meaning in the day-to-day practice of medicine. ISHI also offers The Healer's Art curriculum annually to Year I and II medical students at UCSF and trains course directors to replicate this pioneering course at medical schools nationwide.

Visit ISHI's website to learn more about ISHI, its people, programs and workshops.

All ISHI workshops are held at Commonweal in Bolinas, California. One hour north of San Francisco, the Commonweal retreat site encompasses 100 acres of National Park land at the edge of the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the most beautiful, undeveloped coastal areas in Northern California.
